Camera Tek was started in 1986 by John and Brenda Hayes. At that time it was a general photographic workshop situated in Johannesburg CBD with John doing the repairs and Brenda the paper work. CameraTek repaired all makes of cameras, lenses, projectors, flashes and binoculars

In 1993 the company was approached by the distributors of Pentax [Teltron] to take over the Pentax workshops in South Africa, and were appointed the official Pentax repair agents. It then moved premises to Rivonia – joining offices with Pentax. The company then grew to a staff of 8.

It is with pride that the company reveals that it is still the official Pentax service agent in South Africa Not surprisingly, Camera Tek soon outgrew its premises and bought offices in Randburg. This improved customer service as it made visiting the company more convenient and safer for customers.

The reputation of the company exceeded even its own expectations, and in 2001 it was approached by Teltron to take over the Fuji workshop. Camera Tek obviously obliged, and are still the official Fuji repair agents.

The success continued, and in 2005 the company was approached by Canon SA to assist with its workshop – the result being that the company was soon appointed the official repairs agent for all the chargeable Canon repairs in South Africa.

Following our success in 2005 with Canon chargeable repairs, Camera Tek was again approached by Canon SA - This time to take over the entire back-up service of Canon Photo/ Video Products in SA including all warranty and professional equipment.

Camera Tek has grown to a staff complement of 50. Greg and Warren run the business - and the company repairs and services all Canon, Pentax,Samsung and Fuji photographic equipment including video camera's, lenses, flashes and binoculars. Camera Tek also has an extensive sales department catering to the needs of most photographic enthusiasts. Camera Tek are the officially appointed Canon Photo/ video repair centre in South Africa, the officially appointed Fuji photographic repair centre for South Africa and the officially appointed Pentax photographic repair centre for South Africa.)We are also an authorized service center for all Samsung photo/video products.

Camera Tek  Officially opened a second branch in Cape Town on 2 March 2009.
